Outlook-connected busy light installed on the home office door

Working from home with kids around is definitely a challenge for most parents nowadays. Holding a meeting can be solved by hiding in the car, in the basement, or for the lucky ones in an acoustically insulated room. User rjcamz shared on Reddit a solution that combines playfulness with agreement on pandemic house rules.

A wifi-enabled led light installed in the door jam connected to the Outlook calendar of the user. The color coding goes like this:

  • red for silence –  do not enter neither knock
  • yellow for knock first before entering
  • green means available to chat or draw on the whiteboard

The LED device is also connected to Alexa for quick schedule changes followed by door synchronization. And finally, as one user points it out in the comments:

Kids are at least gonna grow up respecting traffic signals.
